1L Miss McCreavy
Mrs Rothwell, Miss McCreavy, Miss Duffy, Mrs Smedley, Mrs Healey, Mrs Jones, Mrs Barrowclough, Miss McDermott, Ms Whittaker and Mrs Roisinska welcome you to Unit 1.
During the course of this academic year we will be focusing on the following curriculum areas:
People Who Help Us
All Creatures Great and Small
In English this term we will use a range of fiction, poetry and non-fiction texts linked to our topic area.
We will focus on our handwriting, phonics and expressing our preferences for different texts.
We will be working on our counting and number skills, also we will work on shape, space and measure. We will begin to use the skills we have gained to solve practical problems.
This term we will be studying the three themes of Domestic Church: Family: God’s love and care for every family; Baptism and Confirmation: an invitation to belong to God’s family and Advent: a time to look forward to Christmas.
Phonics is taught each day in a dedicated phonics session using Bug Club.
Unit 1 Reading Stars…
There is an expectation that all pupils in KS1 read, or are read to at least 5 times per week at home for approximately 10 minutes per session. This really makes a huge difference to your child’s progress in reading.
Please sign your child’s reading record book every time you read with them (you may also wish to write a short comment) and return their book to school every day.
Books will be changed once per week on the day indicated on your child’s reading folder.
If your child reads at least three times a week, they are a Reading Star and are entered into a prize draw where they have the chance to win a reward!
In addition to your child’s reading book they will have a word ladder. This will contain some of the most frequently read words.
-Help your child to quickly recognise them and know them ‘on sight’.
-Check their knowledge by reading them in a different order.
-Please tick when your child knows the word by heart.
When appropriate children will learn to spell the words.
Swap-a-book – children may change their swap a book as often as they like.
Thank you for your support and involvement.
Your child will do PE each week. Please ensure that they have a PE kit (school t-shirt, black shorts, black pumps – all labelled) in school in a draw string bag.
As the children will access outdoor provision daily they should have a waterproof coat and a pair of wellies.
Upcoming events are also advertised in our weekly school newsletter, website and Twitter page.
