On Monday 20th May, a group of excited pupils and family headed down to Rochdale Town Hall to support Darren Sekiwu in the Grand Final of the Rochdale Spelling Bee, after successfully competing at school and the regional finals against several other primary schools. He was one of only 15 pupils from across the Borough to make it to the Finals and one of the youngest pupils up on the stage. He faced some really tricky words – including some dinosaur names that we had never even heard of before! Unfortunately, Darren didn’t win this time, but he had a really good go and he vows to come back stronger. His loyal band of vocal supporters stayed on to cheer him to the end and celebrated in the final presentation when he received a dictionary, a football and a commemorative certificate
