School Uniform

8th August 2017

Dear Parents,

St Patrick’s School – Girls Uniform 2017

It has been brought to my attention that some parents still have questions regarding the introduction of the new school uniform.

As we have previously shared with you, the governors have agreed to introduce a new school skirt for the girls from September 2017. Only two parents responded to the consultation process, both were matters relating to the cost of the skirt.

As a result the governors decided, unanimously, that the skirt would be introduced from this September, however, in recognition of the fact that this may incur additional costs for families where the skirt may be passed to a younger sibling, the governors decided to provide a subsidy of £5.00 per pupil for the year of introduction.

We have provided the uniform suppliers, Monk House based in Drake Street, with a list of pupil names so that each girl can purchase one skirt with the £5.00 reduced cost. I appreciate that there may well be some parents who have already purchased a navy blue skirt for September, and so with this in mind the governors have agreed to a phased introduction of the new uniform from September 2017 – September 2018, with each pupil eligible to the concession on their first purchase for the first 12 months.

I have been asked about the pinafore skirt that some of our girls have chosen to wear, this is no longer part of the school uniform and so will be phased out over the next twelve months.

This change has not been an easy decision, and has been introduced as a way of bringing greater consistency to our school uniform. As we explained in the consultation, the girls’ skirts particularly, have shown increasing variance, with many not even wearing navy blue as stipulated in the school policy for uniform.

Change will always divide opinion, however, when the girls arrive in school in September, I am sure you will agree that the pupil and staff group who selected the new skirt have chosen wisely and the girls will have a memory of being the first pupils to wear the uniform for St Patrick’s.

If you have any further questions I can be contacted in school until Thursday 10th August and again from Tuesday 22nd August. You may have to leave a message for me to get back to you as we have builders on site and I also have a number of meetings arranged.

I hope that you are enjoying the holiday and that sun will arrive once again before the children return to school in September.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Monica Walczak
